RunOnFlat Tires - Technology and Safety

Goodyear RunOnFlat Tires - Technology and Safety

Publicado:

Have you ever imagined driving without your spare tire? This is what happens in vehicles that use RunOnFlat technology on their tires.

The RunOnFlat technology found in some tire models allows drivers to keep their vehicles running even when a tire is totally flat. They can travel for up to 80km and at a top speed of 80km/h.

How do they work?

RunOnFlat tyres have reinforced sidewall, shoulder, and bead structures, using a more resistant rubber compound. The more traditional tire models carry all the weight on the compressed air, which results in requiring an almost immediate tire change when the air pressure is lost.

With a range of up to 80km and at a maximum speed of 80km/h, RunOnFlat tires are ideal for more extreme situations, such as a tire puncture or problems on the road late at night. Bearing in mind that, regardless of driving below the tire maximum speed, does not imply in increasing the total distance the tire can cover.

Of course, with all these benefits, the cost is also higher. Due to being heavier and featuring all the pertinent technology, RunOnFlat tires can cost, on average, 20% to 50% more than regular tires.

It is important to remember that not all vehicles can use the RunOnFlat tires. Basically, cars without tire pressure sensors cannot use them, since they are the only resource that drivers have to see that their tires are without air.
